peppermint

Despite spring having (allegedly) sprung, it’s still the season of colds and flu.Peppermint contains the essential oil of menthol, which works to reduce inflammation and congestion. When boiled in tea, it has the slightly strange effect of cooling down the inside of the body, whilst heating up the outside. This might sound a bit strange but it’s just a way of helping the body to reduce a fever. Vitamins like calcium and potassium also help the immune system to fight back against nasty colds and flu.

It's not just used to combat viruses though. Peppermint leaf is a brilliant natural digestive aid - it has a settling effect on the stomach, and the antispasmodic properties are relaxing on the gut. These properties also come in very useful if you’ve overdone it a bit the night before, and even just inhaling the scent of peppermint can help reduce that horrible nauseous feeling, which is one of the many reasons why it made it into our Recover blend.
